Japanese Ukiyo-e Skateboard Wall Art
Japanese woodblock art on Grade-A Canadian maple. Hokusai's Great Wave, Kuniyoshi, sakura and ukiyo-e prints, UV-printed onto real skateboard decks at 85 × 20 cm. Singles from €140, diptychs from €230, triptychs from €310.
Ukiyo-e translates onto a deck better than almost any other tradition, for a reason worth knowing: these images were carved into woodblocks and printed in editions. Bold outline, flat colour and legibility at a distance were built into the technique from the start, and they were affordable multiples rather than unique paintings.
The palettes tend to run cool, which makes them useful in rooms where warm-toned work would feel heavy. Read the full Japanese ukiyo-e guide.
