Skateboard Wall Art – Girl with a Pearl Earring | Delft Blue Art Deck
Johannes Vermeer painted Girl with a Pearl Earring around 1665 in Delft. The girl is not identified — she turns toward the viewer from a black background, wearing a turban of blue and yellow cloth and a single pearl earring. The painting was virtually unknown until the 20th century; it entered the Mauritshuis collection in The Hague only in 1902. The Delft blue treatment places Vermeer's painting inside the tradition of Dutch Delftware — the blue-and-white tin-glazed pottery produced in Delft from the 17th century — bringing two distinctly Dutch visual traditions together on a single surface.
