Peter Paul Rubens painted The Tiger Hunt around 1616–1617. It belongs to a series of hunt scenes Rubens produced for the Duke of Bavaria — lion hunt, hippo hunt, crocodile hunt, and tiger hunt — among the most energetic and violent paintings of the Baroque period. The composition is pure chaos: horses, hunters, dogs, and animals locked in a single churning mass. Rubens studied animal anatomy by sketching at the Antwerp menagerie. The painting is at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Rennes, France.
