Rubens Samson and Delilah Skateboard Wall Art
Peter Paul Rubens painted Samson and Delilah around 1609-1610, shortly after returning to Antwerp from Italy. The Old Testament scene shows Delilah cradling the sleeping Samson while a barber cuts his hair — the source of his strength — as Philistine soldiers wait in the doorway. Rubens renders Delilah's complicity with extraordinary psychological subtlety: her face is calm, almost tender. The painting was bought by the National Gallery in London in 1980 for 2.5 million pounds, at the time one of the highest prices ever paid for an Old Master.
