Jan Davidsz de Heem was the leading painter of Baroque floral still life in the Dutch Golden Age. This large-format composition, painted around the 1660s, shows a monumental arrangement of flowers from different seasons — a feat impossible in nature, achieved only in paint. The Dutch word for this genre is bloemenpraal: floral splendour. De Heem was based in Antwerp for most of his career and is represented in major museum collections across Europe.
