Jacques-Louis David - Napoleon Crossing the Alps Skateboard Deck Triptych Wall Art - Premium Canadian Maple
Jacques-Louis David painted Napoleon Crossing the Alps in 1801, one of five versions he made of the same composition. Napoleon commissioned the painting and asked to be shown "calm, on a fiery horse." In reality, Napoleon crossed the Alps on a mule. David took artistic licence: the final image shows Napoleon on a rearing white stallion pointing upward, with the names NAPOLEON, HANNIBAL, and KAROLUS MAGNUS carved into the rocks below — placing him in the line of great conquerors. The Versailles version is the most famous; others are in Vienna, Berlin, and Charlottenburg.
