Insuring a Skateboard Art Collection: Questions to Ask

Skateboard Art

If you want to insure a skateboard art collection, begin by asking how your current policy treats the objects. Coverage depends on the policy, location and collection rather than a universal rule for all European owners.

Prepare an inventory

Record the artist or brand, exact product, edition details, purchase information and condition. Photograph both sides and identifying marks.

Keep copies of invoices and any appraisal information separately from the physical collection.

Ask how items are classified

Does the insurer treat the decks as ordinary contents, collectibles or artwork? Is separate listing required, and how is value established?

A specialist insurer may offer collections cover, but that does not mean a particular policy accepts every skateboard or provides identical terms in each country.

Review the questions that affect use

Ask about theft, accidental damage, transit, storage, exhibitions and lending. Check limits, exclusions, excesses and any display or security requirements.

Confirm whether a claim would use a stated value, replacement basis or another method.

Get the answer in writing

Provide an accurate description and ask for policy-specific confirmation. Do not assume that a receipt, certificate or online asking price is sufficient valuation evidence.

Keep the record current

Update the inventory after purchases, sales or significant changes in condition. Consult an appropriate broker or insurer when the collection's circumstances change.

This is a checklist for a coverage conversation, not a statement of legal entitlement, tax treatment or a guaranteed premium rate.
