He declines armour, chooses five smooth stones from a stream, and slings one into Goliath's forehead. The story has become the defining metaphor for the underdog — told and retold across three thousand years of literature, painting, and sculpture. Donatello, Michelangelo, Caravaggio all took their turn. This version gives it the bold upward energy of stained-glass: David ascendant, halo glowing, Goliath's golden armour crumpled beneath him.
